About Our Research Process
SupplementChecker analyzes 7,882+ supplement brands using data from FDA, NSF, USP, Health Canada, FTC, and 10+ additional sources. Every trust score is calculated algorithmically — no brand can pay to alter their score.
We're an independent, free research tool. See our methodology for the complete scoring breakdown, or our data sources page for every source we check and how often.
How We Research Brands
For every brand in our database, we pull from government regulatory databases (FDA recalls, warning letters, adverse event reports, FTC enforcement actions) and third-party certification programs (NSF Certified for Sport, USP Verified, Informed Sport, Informed Choice, NPA GMP).
For our top 50 brands — the ones you're most likely searching for — we go deeper:
- Scrape the brand's own website for testing claims, certifications, and transparency signals
- Analyze Reddit community sentiment across supplement subreddits
- Summarize Amazon review themes and common complaints
- Check independent lab reports (ConsumerLab, Labdoor public scores)
- Review legal history (ClassAction.org, TINA, recalls, contamination reports)
- Aggregate expert community opinions (Examine.com, Longecity, r/Nootropics)
Every piece of research on our deep-dive pages includes inline source citations. If we can't find information, we say so — we don't invent data.
What Makes Us Different
- Algorithmic scores, not pay-to-play rankings. Every brand is scored by the same rules.
- Public data only, with citations. You can verify any claim we make.
- Monthly updates for regulatory data; daily recall monitoring via FDA API.
Important Disclaimers
- SupplementChecker is not medical advice. Consult a healthcare provider before starting any supplement.
- FDA adverse event reporting is voluntary. Higher report counts may reflect a brand's popularity, not necessarily worse safety.
- Trust scores reflect publicly available data. Brands may have certifications or testing not captured in our database.
- We update data monthly. Scores may not reflect very recent changes.
