What the Data Reveals
The top tier is small. Out of 7,882 brands, only 501 (6%) earned an A or A+ grade. The supplement industry is large, but the quality tier at the top is narrow — most brands fall into B+ or lower.
FDA issues are not rare. 186 brands (2%) have at least one FDA recall or warning letter on record. That is 186 with recalls and 8 with warning letters. A clean FDA record alone is a meaningful differentiator.
Third-party certification is the biggest lift. Every brand in the top 10 holds at least one recognized certification from NSF, USP, Informed Sport, or Informed Choice. Certification is the single most reliable signal that a brand's label claims match what is in the bottle.
The average trust score across the whole dataset is 64.4/100. The average for the top 50 is 99.8/100 — a 35.4-point gap that reflects the difference between industry-average brands and the ones that actually invest in quality verification.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are the most trusted supplement brands ranked?
Every brand starts with a baseline score of 70/100. We add bonuses for recognized certifications (NSF Certified for Sport +15, USP Verified +15, Informed Sport +10, GMP +5, 10+ years in business +10, clean FDA record +10, publishes lab results +10) and subtract penalties for FDA warning letters (-25), recalls (-20), high adverse event counts (-15), no third-party testing (-15), proprietary blends (-10), and FTC enforcement (-20 to -50). The algorithm runs against 7,882 brands and the top 50 are ranked by final score with tie-breakers on total certifications, fewer FDA recalls, and years in business.
What are the best supplement brands in 2026?
The highest-scoring supplement brands in 2026 are Rule 1 Proteins (R1), Shaklee, Bronson Vitamins, NaturesPlus, Trace Minerals Research. Each holds a recognized third-party certification (NSF, USP, or Informed Sport) and has a clean FDA record. The full top 50 list above is sorted by trust score and verified against NSF, USP, Informed Sport, Informed Choice, Health Canada, and FDA databases.
What data sources did you use?
We cross-referenced every brand against the FDA recall database (openFDA), FDA adverse event reports (CAERS), FDA warning letters, NSF certified products database, USP verification program, Informed Sport/Choice public registries, Health Canada Licensed Natural Health Products database, and FTC enforcement actions. Certifications are verified against each certifier's public database, not just label claims.
Is a higher trust score always better?
Yes, within our methodology. A higher score means more independently verifiable quality signals (certifications, clean FDA record, published lab results, GMP manufacturing) and fewer red flags (recalls, warning letters, proprietary blends, FTC actions). However, trust score is not a guarantee of efficacy for a specific health goal — it measures manufacturing integrity and transparency, not whether a given supplement works for you.
How often is the list updated?
The full dataset is recomputed monthly via our automated pipeline. FDA data refreshes pull from openFDA directly; NSF and Informed Sport registries are re-scraped on the same schedule. Certifications can be added or removed between updates — always verify the current status on a brand's individual page before purchasing.
Why isn't [my favorite brand] on the list?
This is the top 50 out of 7,882 brands in our database, so most brands don't make the cut. The biggest reason a well-known brand misses the top 50 is the absence of a recognized third-party certification (NSF, USP, Informed Sport, or Informed Choice). Brands that only "claim" testing on their label without holding a verifiable certification lose points. Search any brand at supplementchecker.co/check/ to see its full trust report and score breakdown.
