Frequently Asked Questions

How many supplement brands have been recalled?

SupplementChecker tracks 295 recall records across 165 unique brands (2.1% of the 7,882 brands in our database). Of those, 0 are FDA recalls and 295 are Health Canada recalls.

What are FDA recall classes?

The FDA classifies recalls by severity. Class I is the most serious — there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death. Class II means temporary or medically reversible health consequences are possible. Class III means the product is unlikely to cause adverse health consequences but violates FDA labeling or manufacturing laws.

Where does this recall data come from?

FDA recall data is sourced from the openFDA API, which aggregates official recall announcements filed by manufacturers or the FDA. Health Canada data is sourced from the Health Canada Open Government recalls dataset. Both are updated daily by our automated pipeline.

How often is the database updated?

Our recall monitoring runs daily. Any new FDA or Health Canada recall is ingested automatically and matched to the affected brand in our database. Trust scores are recomputed when new recalls are added.

What should I do if a supplement I take has been recalled?

Stop using the product immediately. Check the recall notice for the specific lot numbers, expiration dates, and return instructions. For serious health concerns, contact your doctor. You can report adverse events directly to the FDA through the MedWatch program or to Health Canada through MedEffect Canada.
